That day I learned my monstera was actually drowning not thriving

Watered my monstera every Saturday without fail for 3 years until a friend from the local greenhouse saw the yellow leaves and said 'you're drowning that thing, let it dry out between waterings.' Has anyone else been doing the exact same watering routine for years without questioning it?

Man there's a greenhouse near my place that's been spot on with advice like that too. I used to water my snake plant the same way every Tuesday without thinking about it, just figured plants were like clocks and needed the same amount each week. But after seeing how much better it looked after I let the soil go dry for a bit, I had to admit I was wrong. It's funny how we get stuck in a routine without questioning if it's actually helping or hurting.

That snake plant was probably fine either way honestly.
