Backed myself into a corner choosing between a trowel with a wood handle vs a plastic one

Been using the same wood-handled Marshalltown for years but it started splintering bad. Picked up a plastic-handled version at the supply yard last week and my hand cramps up way faster now. Anyone else ditch the wood handle and regret it or am I just not giving it enough time?

Why is it that wood handles feel like they were carved by God himself but plastic ones feel like they were designed by someone who's never held a trowel? I gave plastic a shot for about two weeks before my hand started reminding me that I am not a young man anymore. Switched back to wood and just wrapped electrical tape around the splintery spots.

Electrical tape, classic. Reminds me of the time I tried those fancy gel grips on a hammer, figured they'd be great for my bad shoulder. Ended up chucking the thing across the garage after an hour, dug my old wooden handled one out of the junk pile and never looked back.

That wooden handle thing is real... @jamie770 nailed it with the "carved by God" part. My old shovel has this perfect smooth spot worn right where my hand goes, can't get that with a plastic one in a million years.
