I finally splurged on a $200 laser level
Picked up a self-leveling green beam laser last week. My old bubble level was killing my back on long retaining wall runs. This thing shoots a perfect line 50 feet out, no squinting. Made my brick alignment dead on in half the time. Anyone else ditch the old school levels for laser?

Well now you've got me wondering if it's worth trying one on my deck project. I've been setting fence posts by string line and it works but takes forever to check each one. The green beam sounds good for daylight work too since it's brighter than red. Only thing stopping me is I'd probably end up using it mostly for hanging pictures and shelves around the house.

How are you planning to use it for shelf hanging that a regular level couldn't handle? I just got one last month and honestly the green beam is a game changer outside even in direct sunlight, but inside it's almost too bright on white walls. Have you tried a laser before or would this be your first one?

@matthewmartin green beam is def worth it for a deck. String lines are such a pain. Shelf hanging? Overkill but hey, you do you lol.
