Just realized my level was lying to me for years

I was checking a wall I'd built last week and felt something off, so I dug out my old 4-foot level and it showed level, but the new one said we were out by a quarter inch. Turns out the old level had taken a drop off a scaffold back in 2019 and the vial had shifted, never thought to recheck it. Has anyone else had a trusted tool go bad on them and only catch it by accident?

That deck you built last year with the old level, are you going back to double check all that work or just leaving it?
