My $40 moisture meter gave me false readings and I lost a whole wall of brickwork

I spent 40 bucks on a cheap moisture meter off Amazon last month and it kept saying my bricks were dry. Turns out it was off by like 15 percent and I laid 3 courses before I caught it with a bucket test. Now I got to tear out about 6 feet of wall because the mortar started cracking. Has anyone else had a tool just straight up lie to them like that?

Man those laser measurers are terrible for anything serious. I had one that said my wall was perfectly square and it was off by almost 2 degrees. Cost me a whole weekend of shimming and fixing gaps. Cheap tools just can't be trusted for critical stuff like brick or framing. You get what you pay for, I guess.

Bought one of those laser distance measurers that claimed to be accurate within 1/8 inch and it was off by almost 3 inches on a long run. Ended up having to reorder a whole set of custom cut studs because the wall came out crooked. That thing went straight in the trash and I went back to my old tape measure.

Right? Mine was off almost 2 feet on a 50-foot run. Junk.
