My foreman said to soak my bricks before laying in 90 degree heat, I thought he was crazy

During a job in Phoenix last July he insisted I dunk each brick first. I figured it would just make a mess but the mortar actually held way better and we didnt get any cracking. Anyone else find this helps in dry weather or was it just a fluke on that job?

My neighbor's dad did a job in Tucson back in '92 where he skipped the soaking step and the whole wall cracked within a week. @the_sam might think it's overkill but that's a $500 mistake waiting to happen. I tried it on a retaining wall last summer during a dry spell and the mortar stayed workable way longer than I expected. It's not about making a mess, it's about keeping the brick from sucking all the moisture out of the mortar before it can cure. That tip probably saved me a call back.

Huh, sounds like overkill to me.
