Pro tip: Check your scaffold tags before you climb, every single time.

Last week in Springfield, I watched a crew get shut down because their scaffold tag was three months out of date. The inspector said the fine starts at $500 per man on the platform. Do you guys have a set schedule for re-inspections, or just wait for the tag to expire?

Check the tag yourself, no excuses. Relying on a schedule or a foreman is fine, but your own eyes are the last line of defense. I saw a guy get written up because he trusted the posted inspection date without looking at the actual tag. That piece of paper is your permit to work, so treat it that way. Make it a personal habit, like buckling a seatbelt, every single time you step up.

We got burned on that once, a tag expired over a weekend. Now our foreman checks them every Monday morning without fail. He puts the inspection date on the big whiteboard schedule too, so everyone sees it. It's just part of the Monday toolbox talk now. That routine check saved us from a huge headache last month.
