Question about the string vs the level: I went with string on a garden wall in Tulsa and it went sideways
So I had a 30 foot garden wall to run and my level got knocked off the tailgate that morning, glass cracked. Old boy on the crew swears by string, says he has laid block for 22 years and never trusted a bubble. I figured sure, cheap fix, ran a mason line from corner to corner and eyeballed every course off it. Looked dead straight from one side. From the other side, you could see a dip about a quarter inch in the middle because the string sagged with the sun on it. Homeowner noticed before I did. I told her it was a design feature. She did not laugh. Ended up pulling the top 4 courses and relaying them off a borrowed level. So my question is, do you all tension your line with a line block or just tie it tight and hope? And does anybody actually trust string on a long run like that?
