Told my buddy I didn't need a line pin when I started laying brick... big mistake

Been doing block work for about 3 years now and my straight lines always looked a bit off. Old timer named Mike told me to pick up a good line pin set. I thought nah, I got this, my eye is good enough. Fast forward to last week on a retaining wall job in Denver, my courses were drifting like crazy. Spent 3 extra hours fixing it. Finally grabbed a $15 line pin kit and man, my rows are dead straight now. Has anyone else fought using the simple tools and regretted it?

Real eyes drift, but a string never lies.

Mike taught me that lesson three years too late.

Real eyes drift but a string never lies" - I'll admit I used to roll my eyes at that one until I saw it play out in real life. Now I swear by it.
