Took me 10 years to realize my trowel handle was backwards

I was gripping it wrong the whole time, thumb on the flat side instead of the curve. Old foreman walked by and laughed for a solid minute before showing me the right way. Anyone else find out they've been doing a basic thing wrong for years?

Man, that's brutal. It's funny how we just accept the awkward way of doing something because nobody ever tells us different. I think that's a big part of why so many people are stubborn about changing their habits, even when a better way is right there. You get so used to the struggle that it just becomes part of the task. I've seen it with cooking, with using tools around the house, even just how people sit in their desk chairs. We all just kind of assume the hard way is the normal way until someone finally laughs and shows us we're holding it backwards.

Read somewhere that humans are creatures of habit not logic, we stick with what we know even if it's dumb. It's like the whole thing with factory workers in a study, they kept doing a pointless step in assembling something just because the guy before them did it. Nobody stopped to ask why until a new person showed up and called it out. Kinda makes you wonder what little things we're all doing the hard way without realizing it.
