Tried a level line on a curved garden wall, my joints went sideways in Tulsa

I pulled a taught string across a 12 foot radius wall last Saturday and every course drifted a half inch off the chalk line, so I switched to a laser and had to tear out 3 rows, has anyone else used a story pole for curves or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

My 3/4" pvc story pole saved my butt on a 20 footer last month. Curves just laugh at chalk lines. You're not crazy, that's just masonry math doing its thing.
