Thought lime putty was the pro move until I tried it. Never again.

Picked up a bag of lime putty once thinking itd give my brickwork that old school look. Ended up with mortar that took three days to set and crumbled like sand when I touched it. Had to chip it all out and start over with the regular stuff from the hardware store. Waste of a weekend and my back still hurts from that job.

I read somewhere that lime putty is super picky about temperature and humidity, like you basically need a perfectly controlled environment for it to cure right. Heard a guy on a forum say he only uses it for pointing on really old buildings where the bricks are soft and it actually helps them breathe. For regular modern brickwork though, that stuff is a disaster waiting to happen. Sounds like you got the full nightmare experience, three days to set and then crumbling like a bad cookie. My back aches just thinking about having to chip all that out by hand, that's brutal.
