Bought a whole chicken for $5.99 on Sunday and it fed us 4 meals

I never bothered with whole chickens before, figured it was too much work for not much payoff. But last week I roasted one with just salt and pepper, then turned the leftovers into soup, tacos, and a casserole. Anybody else find that one trick that just keeps giving?

Wait, isn't that $5.99 chicken more like $9 after you account for the wasted bits and time?

honestly yeah that's the part people dont think about when they see that $5.99 sign. you gotta factor in all the bones and skin and stuff you end up tossing, plus the time to chop and prep. i feel like a whole chicken always ends up costing more than i planned when i actually break it down.

Wait, am I the only one who ends up with chicken juice all over my counter and somehow in my hair every time I try to break one down? I always think I'm saving money but then I spend twenty minutes wrestling with a slippery bird and end up with a pile of jagged pieces that look like something from a horror movie. My knife skills are so bad I probably lose more meat to the trash can than I would have spent buying pre-cut stuff. And don't even get me started on the time I tried to make stock from the bones - I burned the pot and my whole kitchen smelled like wet socks for a week.
