Cooked rice wrong for 10 years until my aunt visited from Thailand
I always rinsed my rice until the water ran clear like the bag said, but my aunt laughed and told me that's washing away all the starch that gives it that fluffy texture. She made me stop after just one rinse and my jasmine rice actually stayed separate instead of turning into a sticky mess. Anyone else been doing it by the bag instructions and getting sad results?

But don't you want sticky rice for sushi or risotto though?

Wait, so I've been rinsing until clear water for YEARS thinking I was being fancy, but really I was just ruining my rice? This changes EVERYTHING for me, my rice always turns out sad and clumpy.

You ever notice how we do that with so many things though? Like we get this one piece of advice and just run with it forever without ever questioning if it's even right. I caught myself doing the same thing with pasta water until someone finally told me I was basically boiling the flavor out of it. It's wild how many little kitchen rules we pick up that turn out to be total myths passed around like gospel.
