Found out my cheap rice cooker makes better rice than my fancy one
I always thought cheap rice cookers were junk. But a buddy let me borrow his $15 one from the grocery store while mine was busted. It cooked perfect fluffy rice in 20 minutes, no burn spots on the bottom. My $80 one takes 45 minutes and often scorches the rice. Anybody else have a cheaper kitchen tool that actually works better than the expensive version?

YES the "no burn spots" part really hit home. My cheap $20 rice cooker from Target cooks it perfectly in like 18 minutes. I had a pricey one from a fancy brand that always left a hard crust on the bottom.

Isn't that just how everything works now, cheap stuff does the job while the expensive stuff adds problems for no reason? It's like with my toaster, the $12 one from the discount store makes perfect toast every time, but the fancy one my sister has burns half the loaf before it even browns. Seems like people are paying extra for features they never wanted in the first place.

Right, but at what point does cheap stop being cheap and start being disposable? That toaster from the discount store might make perfect toast for six months, and then the lever snaps off and you're stuck with a glorified paperweight. Feels like there's a sweet spot between overengineered junk and literal junk that nobody's really hitting.
