Had to choose between gas station sushi and a sad microwave burrito for lunch yesterday

I was stuck out running errands way past my lunch break and only had $6 in my wallet. The gas station had one of those packaged sushi rolls with fake crab for $5.49 and a microwave bean and cheese burrito for $2.79. I went with the burrito because it felt safer even though I knew it would taste like cardboard. Big mistake because the tortilla was gummy and the beans had that weird gritty texture. The guy at the counter even warned me they had been sitting there since Tuesday and it was Friday. Ended up spending $4 on a bag of chips just to have something edible. Has anyone else gotten burned by those microwave burritos when you are in a pinch? What do you grab for under $5 when you are out and starving?

Gotta respectfully disagree on this one. I think you made the right call going burrito over gas station sushi, that sushi is a straight up gamble with your digestive system (and your dignity). The gummy tortilla and gritty beans are a bummer for sure, but at least you didn't end up praying to the porcelain gods a few hours later. For under $5 I usually grab a package of peanut butter crackers and a banana from the gas station, it's not fancy but it fills the hole without the risk of food poisoning. Sometimes the safest bet is just admitting you're eating "survival food" and not trying to pretend it's a real meal, you know?

Can't believe you're out here eating gas station bananas like that's a safe choice either!
