I thought dried beans were a total waste of time until my power bill in January hit $85
I always bought canned because I thought soaking beans overnight was a hassle. But after that bill, I tried a bag of dried pintos for $1.29. Cooked a huge pot in my slow cooker, and it made meals for days for pennies. Seriously, what other cheap staples are people sleeping on?

Honestly, the "meals for days" part is exactly why I can't do dried beans. Tbh, that huge pot means eating the same thing over and over, and I just get sick of it. My time has value too, and soaking and cooking for hours isn't free. Canned beans are ready in minutes, so I can make what I actually want for dinner that night. Ngl, the extra cost is worth it for the variety and to not waste food I'm tired of.

Wait, $85 for a power bill? That's the real shocker here, I'd be cooking everything on a camp stove after that lol. But @alicehernandez, you can freeze the extra beans in portions, it's not like you're forced to eat pinto soup for a week straight.
