I used to think canned beans were a cop out until I hit $4.27 for 3 meals
Made a black bean soup last Tuesday that cost me less than a fast food value menu item and fed me for 3 days. Has anyone else found a specific dollar amount where they just gave up on dried beans for good?

That "quick Tuesday soup wins every time" line really hits home. It's funny how we all start out thinking we have to earn our meals with labor before we're allowed to enjoy them, but eventually you just realize time is money too and nobody's handing out medals for soaking beans.

Canned beans aren't saving anyone. That extra sodium and mushy texture is a real trade off. @burns.jenny I get the time argument but dried beans taste better and you control the salt. Quick Tuesday soup is fine but call it what it is, a compromise.

Oh man, I totally get that. For me it was when a can of black beans hit $1.29 and the dried bag was still $2.49 but took an hour of soaking and simmering. The math just stopped making sense for my schedule. I still buy dried for chili if I'm making a huge batch, but for a quick Tuesday soup the can wins every time.
