Just realized my 'fancy' rice cooker was a total waste of money for my budget meals
I used a $90 digital rice cooker for years, thinking it was essential. Then my power went out for a day last month and I had to use a basic pot on my camp stove. The pot rice tasted the SAME, cooked just as fast, and I didn't have a giant appliance taking up counter space. Now I'm debating if single-use kitchen gadgets are ever worth it for someone trying to eat cheap. What's one gadget you bought that you regret for simple cooking?

Honestly, my garlic press just creates more dishes.

My instant pot pressure cooks dry beans in an hour, which saves me a ton on canned goods.

Soak them first to cut down on the gas later.

I always soak mine overnight like grace_campbell said, then cook them with a bit of baking soda.
