Last tuesday at the farmers market, an old lady told me she stretches a single pound of ground beef into three meals by adding grated zucchini and oats.

She said it bulks it up without anyone noticing and it saves her about twelve bucks a week, has anyone else tried this sort of trick to make meat go further?

Bless her heart, that sounds like a smart little trick to stretch things out.

Not gonna lie, I've totally done this with my own budget. I'll buy the giant pack of something even if I don't need it yet just to hit free shipping, and then I end up eating way more than I planned because it's sitting there taunting me. One time I bought a 48-pack of instant ramen thinking I was being smart, and I was sick of it by day 10. Still got another three weeks of noodles to choke down though. How do you keep from going overboard on the "stock up to save" mentality?

Oh man, totally! I did the exact same thing last month with granola bars. Grabbed a 30 pack from that bulk store because it was "cheaper per bar" and I justified it like some kinda budget genius. @carter.casey I feel that ramen pain though, I'm still staring at a box of those bars in my pantry and I can't even look at another peanut butter flavor. The struggle is real when you're trying to save a buck but end up stuck with a mountain of the same stuff.
