My $15 slow cooker finally quit on me after 8 years of service
It was a cheap one from a yard sale, and I was making a huge pot of bean soup for the week when it just stopped heating halfway through. I had to finish it on the stove, which used way more power. What's a truly durable budget cooker you've had luck with?

Ugh, that mid-cook failure is the worst feeling. I swear by the old Crock-Pot brand ones with the simple dial, the kind your grandma had. Mine's a hand-me-down that's older than I am and it just won't die. The new ones at the store seem just as solid, and you can usually find them for under thirty bucks. No timers or digital screens, just a pot that gets hot and stays hot.

Oh man, that's the worst! My old one died mid-stew last winter, total letdown. Grabbed a basic Crock-Pot from a big box store for like twenty bucks. Thing is a tank, no fancy digital stuff to break. Just the simple knob, cooks everything fine.

That basic knob model sounds solid, @josephmartin. Did you have to adjust your usual cooking times at all with the new one, or did it run about the same as your old fancy one? I'm always worried the heat settings will be different between brands.
