My cheap rice cooker broke and I tried to fix it with a paperclip
The little plastic latch on my $15 rice cooker snapped off, so the lid wouldn't stay shut. I spent over an hour trying to rig it with a bent paperclip, thinking I could avoid buying a new one. It kept popping open and making a mess, and I finally gave up after my third attempt. Has anyone else found a better way to fix these cheap appliances, or is it just time to replace them?

Ever try epoxy putty? That stuff saved my old cooker when the handle snapped. Clean the plastic really good, mold a small blob of putty where the latch was, and let it cure hard. It forms a new plastic lump you can shape a bit. Ray_miller84 is right about the time thing, but if you're stubborn like me, a five dollar tube of epoxy beats a new cooker. Just make sure the lid still vents steam somewhere safe.

Over an hour with a paperclip? That rice cooker owes you more than a working lid at this point.

Oh, the paperclip struggle is so real. Been there with a coffee maker that wouldn't stay closed, and it's just an exercise in pure frustration. Gavinwells has the right idea with epoxy putty, that stuff is magic for broken plastic bits. Honestly, after a certain point, the fight just isn't worth the mental energy. A cheap appliance breaking feels like a personal insult, but sometimes you have to call it.
