My mom told me I was wasting money on pre-cut veggies and she was right

I used to buy those bags of pre-chopped onions and bell peppers for like $4 each. Last week my mom saw me toss one into my cart and said "you're paying double for someone else to do 5 minutes of work." So I timed myself cutting a whole onion, two bell peppers, and a carrot. It took 6 minutes total and saved me $2.50 per meal prep session. Now I buy whole veggies and chop them on Sunday afternoons while I watch a show. Has anyone else had relatives call them out on lazy spending that actually made sense?

The real savings kick in when you factor in not having to peel that flimsy plastic off the onion and then wash your hands three times to get the smell out.

and honestly @river_allen that's the part people don't think about when they buy pre-cut stuff. you're paying for time but you're also paying for your sanity basically. i used to cry every time i chopped an onion and then my hands would smell like garlic for the rest of the day no matter how much i scrubbed them with soap and lemon juice. the pre-chopped stuff just dumps right into the pan and you're done. plus the pre-peeled garlic cloves are a lifesaver when you're in a rush and don't want to smash cloves with the side of a knife. it's not even about the money at that point it's about not wanting to deal with the mess and the smell.
