My neighbor swore by canned chicken for budget meals...

She said it's just as good as fresh for half the price, so I bought a 6-pack to try in casseroles and tacos... but honestly the texture was so mushy I couldn't finish my plate. Has anyone actually found a good use for the stuff?

Drain it and pat it bone dry before you even think about cooking with it. The trick is to shred it up fine then fry it in a hot pan with some oil until it gets those crispy brown edges. Works great in quesadillas or mixed into a box of zatarain's dirty rice. The mushiness goes away once you give it some heat and texture. Canned chicken straight out of the tin is basically cat food texture though, gotta fix that part first.

Wait I'm gonna be the odd one out here but I actually like canned chicken straight from the can sometimes lol. Like if I'm just throwing it on a salad or mixing it with mayo for a quick chicken salad the soft texture is kind of nice. Not everything needs to be crispy and fried.
