My slow cooker died on soup day, so I learned to cook dry beans the old way

Last Tuesday I loaded up my crock pot with a bag of pinto beans, some onion, and a ham bone for a cheap week of lunches. About three hours in, the whole thing just shut off and never came back on, the outlet was fine but the pot was done for. I had already soaked the beans overnight and didn't want to waste them, so I grabbed my biggest stockpot and put them on the stove instead. It took about two and a half hours of simmering and stirring, but honestly the texture came out better than the slow cooker ever gave me. Has anyone else had good luck switching to stovetop beans after a kitchen appliance gave out? I'm thinking about skipping the slow cooker replacement entirely.

I always figured stovetop beans would be a pain, but after my slow cooker quit mid-chili last winter I tried it and now I'm kinda hooked on the way they turn out. Definitely makes me think twice about buying another one.
