Overheard a guy at the diner say beans are just filler food
I was grabbing coffee at a truck stop diner outside Bakersfield last week. A guy at the next booth tells his buddy beans are just filler, not real food. Said he'd rather pay $4 for a frozen burrito than cook dried pintos. That's crazy to me. A 2 pound bag of pinto beans costs like $2.50 and makes at least 10 meals. I've been eating them with rice and cheap salsa for years. Add a little smoked turkey leg or bacon grease and it's solid. You can stretch a $10 grocery run into a whole week. Anyone else feel like beans get a bad rap for no reason?

Gotta wonder if that guy's ever had refried beans with a good corn tortilla or some real homemade chili with actual pinto beans soaking up all that flavor.

Are you serious? I hear that kind of talk all the time and it just bums me out. Beans are honestly one of the best things you can keep in your pantry for cheap, filling meals. Good on you for sticking with them, that truck stop guy is missing out big time.
