Question about using canned fish for cheap dinners
My roommate said my tuna pasta was 'depressing' because I just mixed it with plain noodles, so now I always add a chopped onion and a squeeze of lemon. Anyone have other simple add-ins that cost almost nothing?

Remember my friend's sad can of sardines? She just dumped them on toast and called it a day... it looked so gray. I told her to try a tiny bit of smoked paprika from the back of her spice rack, the kind that's been there for years. She shook some on with a little garlic powder, and it was like a whole different cheap meal. Sometimes you just need one old spice jar to make it feel like you tried.

My buddy swears by a spoonful of capers from the dollar store, totally changes the vibe. He drains a can of mackerel, mashes it with the capers and some black pepper. Eats it on crackers like a weird pate, but it's weirdly good.

Oh man, that's basically my entire cooking style. I once tried to make "gourmet" tuna salad by adding fancy mustard and it just tasted like regret. Your buddy's mackerel move sounds way smarter.
