Rant: my $5 pot of chili in college turned into a science project
I was in my dorm kitchen in Madison, trying to stretch one pound of ground beef into a week's worth of meals, and I accidentally dumped in a whole container of chili powder, so I had to triple the beans and tomatoes and call three friends over to help eat the giant, spicy mess before it went bad. Anyone have a good fix for when you WAY over-season a big batch of something cheap?

Ever see someone try to fix over-seasoned soup by adding a whole potato? My buddy did that with a stew once and it just made weird, salty mashed potatoes floating in broth. Sometimes you just gotta call it a loss and order pizza.

Your buddy's whole potato trick, @jenny_hall, sounds like a salty science experiment gone wrong.

Actually, that potato trick can work if you do it right. You have to cut it up small so it soaks up the salt evenly, not just drop in a whole spud. It's saved a few soups for me when I got heavy handed with the salt.
