Shoutout to the dried beans that took 3 hours to soften because my stove is ancient

I forgot to check the water level and they kept boiling dry, so I was stuck babysitting a pot for basically a whole movie. Anyone else have a cheap ingredient that turned into a major time commitment?

Ever think about just giving up and ordering pizza halfway through? My old stove turns every bean into a tiny rock that needs a full day's work. At that point you're not cooking, you're in a hostage situation with a pot of legumes. Honestly, the time and frustration makes those canned beans look like a gourmet bargain.
