The farmers market near me is pushing $8 loaves of bread and calling it budget friendly
I actually went to the downtown market last Saturday and a tiny stall was selling sourdough for $8 a loaf. They had a sign saying 'affordable artisan bread' and I almost laughed. Meanwhile the regular grocery store has decent whole wheat for $2.50 and I can stretch that into sandwiches and toast all week. Maybe it's just me but charging that much for flour and water feels like a rip off when times are tight. Has anyone else noticed farmers markets getting way too pricey lately?

The price hikes are real. @the_viola I switched to buying flour in bulk from a restaurant supply place near me and it saved me a good chunk. Bakeries really get hit hard with those increases. A little advance planning ahead of time helps a ton.

Oh man, $8 for a loaf of sourdough that probably costs them maybe a dollar to make? That sign wouldve made me snort too. I saw a stall at our market charging $12 for a \"heritage grain\" boule and I was like, come on, it's literally just fancy bread. Meanwhile I grabbed a huge bag of flour at Costco for like $6 and baked two weeks worth of bread myself. Between the price tags and the small portions, I just don't get how anyone can afford that market stuff regularly. Did you end up trying that sourdough or did you walk right past it?
