TIL a grocery store in Tacoma sells 'ugly' veggies for a dollar a bag
I was at this market on 6th Avenue yesterday looking for cheap stuff for soup. They had a whole bin of lumpy carrots, crooked potatoes, and split tomatoes all mixed together. The sign said 'Chef's Secret, $1 per bag' and the bags were huge. I grabbed one and got enough for three big pots of stew for less than a coffee. Has anyone else found a spot with deals like this on produce that's just a bit funny looking?

Honestly, that's a solid find. I'm just wondering if the store is actually taking a loss on those bags to be nice, or if it's a smart way to cut down on their waste costs. Do they restock that bin daily or is it just whatever didn't sell the day before?

Good question about the restocking. I bet it's a mix of both being nice and saving on waste fees, because throwing out food costs them money too. It feels like more stores are trying this instead of just tossing everything. Do you have a spot like that near you?

Wait, they throw out food that's still good?
