TIL soaking dried beans overnight saves me $11 a week on groceries
I started doing this about 2 months ago after a coworker mentioned it. A 1-pound bag of dried black beans costs me $1.50 at Aldi, and it makes the same amount as 3 cans that would run me $3.60. The texture is way better too, no mushy beans like the canned ones sometimes have. I just toss them in a bowl of water before bed and they're ready to cook by morning. Anyone else notice a big taste difference between dried and canned?

The dried bean texture is so much better it makes me wonder what else I've been overpaying for convenience.

@reesel50 you got me thinking about something nobody talks about. Canned beans always have that weird slimy liquid and extra salt, but dried beans let you control the whole soak and cook process so the texture comes out perfect for whatever you're making. Big thing for me is the cost difference. A bag of dried beans is like a dollar and makes way more than a few cans, so you're basically paying for water and metal packaging when you buy canned. Plus you can batch cook dried beans and freeze them in portions for the same convenience without the premium markup.
