Took me 3 weeks to figure out why my rice cooker was making mushy rice
I been making rice for years no problem. Then got a new cooker from the thrift store for $8. First batch came out like oatmeal. Tried less water, less time, still bad. Turns out the inner pot was slightly warped on the bottom so it wasn't making good contact with the heating element. Grabbed a cheap $15 pot set at Target and now it works perfect. Anyone else have a dumb kitchen gadget fail that took forever to diagnose?

Wait, rice cookers don't use gaskets though.

Warped pot is a classic thrift store gamble. Had a similar thing with a bread machine from a garage sale - kept making dense loaves no matter what I tried. Turned out the paddle was missing a tiny rubber gasket so it wasn't mixing right. Spent $3 on a replacement part online and it's been cranking out perfect bread ever since. Gotta love cheap kitchen mysteries.

That bread machine paddle gasket thing is wild lol, I never would've thought of that. @logan_ellis what made you think to check the inner pot for warping first instead of something else like the thermostat?
