Tried to stretch ground beef with lentils and ended up with weird mush

Was making tacos on Tuesday and threw in a cup of green lentils without pre-cooking them, and my whole kitchen smelled like burnt cardboard for hours anyone else ruin a meal trying to be thrifty?

Green lentils need soaking or they'll just turn into sad paste.

Wait, you're telling me you've never soaked green lentils? I've been throwing them straight into soups and curries for years and they always come out fine. Are you sure you're not thinking of red lentils, because those turn to mush no matter what you do.
