Warning: Limp veggies in your fridge? Make a filling soup on the cheap.

Had some celery and carrots going soft... almost tossed them. Then I got a broth cube and some lentils from the pantry. Chopped it all up, let it cook for a while. Ended up with a big pot of soup that fed me for days. Really cuts down on waste and saves cash.

Hey, solid soup hack! But watch out for the broth cube, those things are packed with salt. I usually use half a cube and add extra water, or go for a low sodium version. Also, lentils need about 20 minutes to simmer to get tender.

Yeah I'm totally with you on the broth cube thing, I always break off a tiny piece instead of using the whole thing. Almost burned a pot of lentils once though, they really do need that full 20 min and you gotta stir em sometimes.

Last month I found a wrinkly pepper and almost tossed it, then chopped it into a rice bowl. It made me realize how often we throw away stuff that's still perfectly good. Like using bread heels for crumbs or freezing herb stems for stock. Once you start looking for it, you see chances to use things up everywhere. What's the most random thing you've saved from the trash lately?
