A $12 train ticket taught me to stop chasing cheap flights to Europe
Got stuck in London for 6 hours last month because my budget airline had a delay, and I missed my connection. On a whim I looked up the train to Paris, it was only $12 more than my replacement flight. Now I check rail options before booking anything, especially for routes under 500 miles. The train dropped me right in the city center, no airport taxi, no luggage fees. That one trip flipped my whole way of planning trips. Has anyone else ditched flights for trains on a whim and found it cheaper in the end?

Last year I took the overnight sleeper from Vienna to Munich because my flight got canceled and it was the only option left. Ended up being like 40 bucks and I got a whole bed, plus I woke up in the middle of the city with time to grab breakfast before my meeting. Now I get weirdly excited checking train times first, even when the flight is technically shorter. My friends think I've turned into some kind of rail fanatic but honestly I just hate airport security lines more than I hate sitting on a train. There's something kinda nice about watching the countryside roll by instead of staring at a tiny window over the Atlantic.
