A hostel in Lisbon taught me to always pack a spork
Got stuck at a market in Alfama with a hot meal and no utensils. Bought a cheap plastic fork that broke right away. Now I keep a titanium spork in my bag, used it at least 10 times this trip alone. Anyone else have a tiny item that saves you money and hassle?

Ever try to eat yogurt with a hotel key card? I keep a small metal spoon in my pencil case now, it's saved me from so many messy desk lunches. That spork idea is way better for actual meals though.

My friend's purse has three different plastic forks from takeout places... it's like we're all slowly building survival kits for modern life.

My old roommate used to keep a titanium spork on her keychain after reading a blog post about "everyday carry" gear. It sounds over the top, but she used it constantly, patriciam51. I saw her eat soup with it once. The whole survival kit idea is real, it's just that our emergencies are usually hunger based and happen at our desks.
