A hostel worker in Prague told me my sleeping bag liner was trash
I was staying at a 10 bed dorm in Prague back in March and this guy who worked there saw me pulling out my cheap $15 liner. He straight up said that thing is just trapping sweat and making me colder at night because it had no breathability. He showed me his silk liner that weighed half as much and packed smaller too. I swapped to a silk one the next week and now I actually sleep warm without waking up damp. Anyone else had a random hostel employee give them a gear reality check?

Yeah those fleece liners are basically sweatbags.

Polyester fleece is basically plastic wrap for your torso lol. You're trapping all that heat and moisture right up against your skin with zero breathability. Something like a light merino or a grid fleece at least lets the sweat escape so you aren't sitting in a damp puddle by lunch.

Read an article last year about this exact thing. The guy was a materials engineer and basically said any fleece that's solid on the back with no exposed loops is just a sweat trap. The big name brand stuff people pay a lot for is sometimes the worst offender. Wearing one of those under a rain shell on a winter hike is basically asking to be soaked in your own filth by the time you stop moving. @jamesf41 nailed it with calling them sweatbags, that's exactly what they are.
