Got burned booking a hostel in Barcelona last month

Was a 'no refund' place near Las Ramblas. Paid $45 a night upfront. Arrived and the lock on my room was busted. Manager said tough luck, policy is no refunds on prepaid. Now I only book places that let me pay at the door. Anyone else have a scammy prepaid booking fail?

Did you check the reviews beforehand or just go with the price? I always skim the most recent 1-star reviews on Hostelworld for complaints about broken stuff and management attitude. Filming the busted lock and sending it to your credit card company could have gotten you a chargeback even with that no refund policy.
