Hit 50 nights in hostels last year and realized I saved over $2,000 compared to budget hotels

I just counted up my Hostelworld history and seeing that number made me wonder how many other people have actually tracked their savings from ditching private rooms for dorms on longer trips?

50 nights is wild, I saved almost $1,200 doing the same thing in Southeast Asia last year.

Did you actually save that much or was it more like you just spent less than normal? $1200 is a solid chunk of change but when hostels are $10 and meals are a couple bucks it adds up fast. I bet you ate like a king on that budget too. Street food in SE Asia is insane value for how good the food is. Sounds like a solid trip honestly.
