Hostel vs Airbnb in Lisbon - the hostel won by a mile
Last month I stayed at a hostel in Lisbon for 8 euros a night and then tried a cheap Airbnb for 35. The hostel had free walking tours, a kitchen with free pasta, and I met 3 people to split a tuk-tuk tour with. The Airbnb was a damp basement room with no AC and the host charged me for a towel. Has anyone else found hostels way better value than budget Airbnbs in Europe?

Honestly yeah, the Airbnb game in Europe has gotten so bad with hidden fees and sketchy hosts. Ngl I paid 40 euros for a place in Barcelona that was basically a closet with a wet mattress.

No joke, a buddy of mine had the same thing happen in Rome last summer. He booked what looked like a cute little studio with a balcony, but when he got there the "balcony" was literally a fire escape with a single chair on it. The host also hit him with a 50 euro cleaning fee after checkout even though he left the place spotless. He spent the whole trip complaining about how the listing photos were clearly from 10 years ago. Honestly made me never want to gamble on cheap Airbnbs again.
