Hostels vs hostels used to be my hill to die on, but a cheap private room in Lisbon changed my mind last month

Oh man, that's a valid point nobody's touching yet - the real game changer isn't private vs dorm, it's how hostels are basically turning into boutique hotels now! I stayed at this place in Barcelona that had a rooftop pool and a coworking space, and it cost less than a McDonald's run lol. But here's the thing nobody talks about: luxury hostels kill the social vibe because everyone just locks themselves in their private rooms watching Netflix. The best hostel experience I ever had was in this janky place in Morocco where we all had to share one bathroom, but we ended up having dinner with strangers every single night. So maybe the real winner is finding that sweet spot between too sketchy and too fancy.

@mila_murphy21 nailed it though - I once stayed in a place that was so fancy they gave you a robe, but I ended up ordering takeout alone in my room because nobody was around to talk to. Meanwhile, that sketchy hostel in Marrakech where the shower was basically a hose made me friends for life. Guess my middle-aged back can't handle real roughing it anymore though lol.

Does my back make a weird noise every time I bend down for my hostel locker now?
