Hostels vs. Hotels: Why you're missing the point on security
Everyone raves about hostel lockers being the safe way to store your stuff, but I think that's backwards. I've stayed in 14 hostels across Europe the last couple years, and three times someone's had their locker broken into, including once at the St. Christopher's in Amsterdam. Hotels with in-room safes aren't perfect either, but at least there's front desk staff and cameras in the hallways. Has anyone else had a bad experience trusting hostel lockers over hotel rooms?

Lost my passport out of a locker in Barcelona even though I double checked the lock was on. The front desk just shrugged and said it happens. Hotels aren't perfect either, but at least when my laptop got stolen from a hotel safe in Rome the manager actually comped my room and had a police report ready in an hour.
