Just realized how much cheaper it is to get a local SIM card now compared to 5 years ago in Bangkok
Back then, a tourist plan at the airport cost me $30 for a week, but last month I got a month of data for under $10 from a 7-Eleven. Has anyone else found a better way to handle phone data without those pricey global plans?

Grabbed a local eSIM online before my last trip and it was a game changer. Had data the second I landed for about half the price of the airport kiosks. The setup took maybe five minutes on my phone. It completely avoids the hassle of finding a store when you're jet-lagged.

Maybe I'm just old school, but I still prefer a local SIM card. I've had eSIMs fail to activate in a few countries, leaving me totally stuck. With a physical SIM, you can at least pop into any corner store and get a new one for a few bucks.

Totally get the "pop into any corner store" thing. That saved me in Lisbon once when my phone took a swim. But man, the last time I had to find a SIM card shop in a new city, I spent an hour walking in circles. My data was dead so I couldn't even look up the address. Ended up paying for overpriced airport wifi just to find the place. Sometimes the old way is its own kind of hassle.
