Lost $60 on a 'guaranteed' hostel booking site last month

Booked a room in Lisbon through some aggregator that promised the cheapest rate. Showed up and they had no record of my reservation, took me three days to get PayPal to refund me. Anyone else just book direct now and skip the middleman?
