My hostel disaster in Lisbon made me swear off booking anything under $12 a night
The bunk bed collapsed at 3am and the guy below me yelled 'this is why I travel with a hammock,' which honestly was the best advice I've gotten all year. Has anyone else had a budget stay go wrong in a way that forced them to change their booking rules?

The hammock guy is a legend, honestly. I once had a ceiling fan fall off in a $10 room in Thailand and spent the rest of the trip checking every fixture like it was out to get me. Now I always read reviews for the last six months no matter how cheap the place looks.
