PSA: Hostel kitchen theft got me twice in Barcelona, here's the fix
Last week I stayed at a hostel in Barcelona and someone swiped my whole bag of groceries from the fridge in less than 4 hours. I was pissed, but then I realized the real hack is to label everything with your room number AND write your checkout date on it. Hostel staff told me they toss unlabeled food every single morning, so the thieves just grab stuff that looks abandoned. I started writing 'CHECKOUT SATURDAY' in big letters on my yogurt and cheese, and magically nobody touched it for the rest of my stay. Also, keep your expensive snacks in a ziplock inside a cereal box, nobody digs through boring carbs. Has anyone else had luck with decoy bags or marking food a specific way?
