That bus station cafe in Denver changed how I pack for trips
I was stuck at the Greyhound station in Denver for 4 hours last summer because of a breakdown. A guy at the counter told me he packs his whole week in a single backpack using packing cubes, and I thought he was crazy. After trying it myself on a trip to Chicago, I saved $45 in baggage fees and didn't have to drag a suitcase up stairs. Has anyone else found a packing hack that actually saved you money?

The packing cube thing is just one of those little shifts that makes you wonder why nobody tells you sooner. It reminds me of how people organize their fridge or their car trunk - we all just jam stuff in there until we're forced to find a better way. That guy at the bus station probably learned it the hard way too, after dragging a suitcase through snow or something. Once you start treating your bag like Tetris instead of a trash can, everything clicks. And yeah, rolling jeans is the real trick. I used to fold mine and they'd take up twice the space and come out wrinkled anyway. It's funny how one small change in the way you pack can bounce back into other parts of life, like keeping your receipts organized or your kitchen cabinets neat.

4 hours at that Greyhound station is brutal, I've been there. Packing cubes saved my back on a trip to Portland last fall. I used to cram everything into one giant duffel and pay extra at the airport. Now I do three cubes: one for shirts and pants, one for socks and underwear, one for tech cords and toiletries. That alone cut my bag weight by half and I never lose stuff. Roll your jeans tight, not fold them - that's my real money saver right there.

Rolling jeans is fine but honestly I never got the hype with packing cubes. Tried them once and felt like I was just shoving around little fabric boxes inside a bigger bag. Ended up going back to just stacking stuff flat and using the space way better. But hey if it works for you and saves money, more power to you.
