That night in a Bangkok hostel changed how I pack forever

I was in this cheap place near Khao San Road back in 2018 and my bag got stolen from under my bunk while I was asleep. Lost my laptop, my good shoes, everything except the shorts I was wearing. After that I started wearing a money belt under my clothes and keeping my passport and phone on me at all times, even in the shower (well, in a dry bag). Has anyone else had something stolen while traveling and changed their whole routine because of it?

Ugh that sucks, I always use a small carabiner to clip my bag to my bed frame now.

Yeah man, after my phone got swiped in Barcelona I started sleeping with my bag wrapped in the bedsheet.

Ray, that "swiped in Barcelona" part is a bit off. You mean your phone got pickpocketed, not swiped. Swiping is when you slide a card or your finger on a screen. Getting your stuff stolen is getting robbed or pickpocketed. It's a small thing but it bugs me because the word means something different. I get what you're saying though. Sleeping with your bag wrapped in a sheet sounds uncomfortable but I guess it beats losing your passport.
