The night my debit card died at a 2am bus station in Chicago

I was heading from Milwaukee to St. Louis, booked a 12 hour Greyhound for like 45 bucks last minute. Got to the station in Chicago around 2am, went to grab a snack and my card got declined. Then the ATM said my account was frozen. Turns out the bank flagged the bus ticket as fraud because I never buy them online. So I'm stuck, no cash, phone at 15%, and the next bus leaves in 40 minutes. I ended up asking the guy at the counter if I could pay with a money order the station sold, but those needed cash too. Finally a stranger overheard me and spot me 20 bucks for a ticket to the next stop, and I mailed him back the money the next day. Has anyone else had their bank lock them out mid-trip? What do you even do in that situation?
